Northcentral Pa Trout Opener

Featured Replies

I'm getting all my trout gear around for my only weekend of trout fishing for the year. I'm not into trout fishing much anymore but the opener is such tradition its hard to pass up. I've been camping along the creek on opening weekend for the last 20 some years with the same basic group of buddies. About the only difference is we used to sleep in just sleeping bags (no tent even) near the creek, now we enjoy the luxuries such as campers and cook stoves instead of just a fire. We still drink some beer but I rarely have to fish opening morning hung over anymore. I guess we've wised up a bit but d**n those were some good memories.

I cant wait for saturday.. it is supposed to be cold and rainy.. what stream are you fishing?

Its going to be trout opener in MN sat. too. Boystcroix, you pretty much got the same thing going as I do. My buddies and I have been going to whitewater in S.E.MN for about 20yrs. every opener. We're expecting highs of 40 and snow on sat. We have to tent this year cause the road got washed out in a flood last fall. :skiing-086:

I don't know if I'm going out or not. I have a nasty cold right now and I'm not about to stand in rain the way I'm feeling :) Probably hit Kish Creek if it isn't crowded (usually is) or just wait until next week when the 'excitement' dies off for everyone around here.

im fishing probably pithole creek, east branch of spring creek, maybe oil or tionesta creek. All NW streams. i am excited, maybe i will get my first trout on the fly....

Im headin down to meyers run now..Hopefully dont get blown away lol

Well what a brutal start to trout season, I got in about an hour of fishing on Lycoming creek before the downpour started. Its been cold befor and rainy before but man that was tough conditions on Sat. I didn't even bother on Sunday , after 2.5 in. rain the creek was muddy and ragin

Friday night the wind was blowing about 30-40mph in White Water(SE MN). Saturday(opener) we crawled out of our tents to an inch of snow on the ground. The snow melted shortly after lunch then the wind picked up again. We only managed to catch a handfull of trout and spent most of the weekend huddled around the campfire.

It ranked right up there with one of the worst openers for us in 20 years. :sad-021:
