Want To Start Trout/salmon Fishing

Featured Replies

What kind of gear/lures/equipment,etc do you need to fish for trout or salmon? I've fished for Bass and panfish for years but want to try something new. I've been trying to look online for what I need but haven't really found anything, so I'm looking for some advice from those of you who have experience trout or salmon fishing.

For Lake Michigan/shore fishing or Harbor fishing, I use a stratic 4000 loaded up with 20# braid on a 8'6" fenwick rod,for lures I have a wide range of 3/4oz spoons, Little cleos, k.o wobblers, krocs and moonshines. I use also

Rat'l traps, reef runners and large shad raps. Also can be caught with a worm or minnow under a slip bobber.

And then there is trolling out in deeper water which is a whole new set of gear.

If your interested I can hook you up with a local fishing fourm that has tons of Lake Michigan info.

He wants help Zero and you want to parade him in front of PB and the wash? :D

The few times each year I fish for great lakes salmon and trout, I will either fish in harbors or cast from the boat. All the above mentioned lures will work but I recommend Berkley Frenzys if you can find them. If you're going to use bass lures be sure to change out the hooks. A king salmons mouth is hard and bony and will bend just about any stock hook. I use 7'MH/rods with 15-17lb mono paired with Abu C3 ambassadeur reels.

Thanks guys, thats what I was looking for.

zero limit- that would be awesome if you point me to that forum. :)

if your fishing streams, learn hot to read the water, find pocket water and you will catch a ton of fish casting your lures into slow water behind big rocks. IMO the best way to fish for trout is on a small mountain stream. get a $30 dollar UL with an abu garcia cardinal UL reel. roostertails, joes flys, small rapalas

He will be fine slone,

Travis, As slonezp was saying there are a couple of smart**** over there that don't share their info, they only like bragging, but for the most part the guy's you will find will be most helpfull. On the main BOARD page scroll down to FISHING THE BIG POND and click on shore fishing, You will find over 14 years of reports and info, So read or join and ask questions. There's more than a few guy's from Michigan on that site also.
