Thinking Of Painting My Own Hardbaits. Is It Worth It?

Featured Replies

I've been skilled in art since birth and when I see people's hand painted lures here, I want to do it myself. I've always wanted to paint my own hardbaits, but just wondering if the expense of everything is worth it? Also, where can I find unpainted hardbaits (cranks, jerkbaits, lipless)? Thanks.

The short answer from me is YES.

Unpainted bodies from Jann's, Barlow's, Lure parts online, and several others.

This is an addiction without a cure, just trying to warn you.

Building and/or painting your own baits is certainly worth it in my opinion. I've spent more on lure building and painting supplies than I would have just buying lures, but if I had to do it over I'd still build lures.

Predator Bass Baits and Bustin Bass Baits both have a wide selection of lure blanks.

I agree with the last replys. I just started making and painting my own and cant seem to get enough of it. If you are skilled in the art feild you will be into it im sure. I too am an artist. One thing is for sure, that when you tie on something you did yourself and catch a fish, its a feeling that you wont know unless you do it. I say go for it.
