The first one looks like submerged vegetation, it has the classic cotton ball look that vegetation has on the SI. The 4th one looks like vegetation. The 5th one looks like a channel or possible road bed maybe? Thanks for sharing.

1. looks like the bottom end of a boat ramp

2 & 3. looks like ditchs or creek channels

4. looks like a weed bed

5. looks like a road bed, boat ramp, or road creek crossing

#1 is a rockpile on the edge of deep water.

#2 and #3 are a creek channel

#4 is a weedline with a stump in the upper right hand corner.

#5 I'm still working on identifying. I'll post more pics of this next time I get to this lake. I think it's got something to do with the roadbed that runs thru the lake.

ALL are areas I've identified as structure to fish.

QUESTION: Which areas would YOU hit first and why? And when would you think would be a good time to find fish there?

  • Super User

Since you have the technology to find the fish, fish those locations when you see fish there. Otherwise why bother fishing where there are no fish?

I use the Inverse pallet so the fish will show up better.

I'm still trying to get better at identifying fish species when I makr them.

I've never tried the inverse palette. Does it make a big difference marking fish Wayne?

  • Super User

The other color pallets don't function any different, just the contrast seems better to make fish show up better IMHO. Add a low to medium setting on the Sharpness adjustment in the Enhance menu. The high setting does even better for fish but it makes the rest of the image grainy looking.

I have a hard time identifying fish in that green color pallet. If you still have the chip with those images on it,put it back into your unit and go to the screen that allows you to view those images again. While viewing those images you should be able to make adjustments on color pallets and sensitivity settings. This way you may be able to identify some fish that were captured there. I have yet to try this but, I am pretty sure humminbird has that capability. Good luck and let me know how that goes.

I was going to try that but, while uploading images to my computer I erased them from the chip.

You can't change any of the settings to affect a snapshot. The snapshot is a picture file .png

Your green color will still be green no matter what SI pallet you change to.

You can affect the color some on your computer with a picture software if you change the file to .jpg

If you do a recording, then you can change settings just like you can when using the Simulator.

interesting ideas fellas. I'll try that.

Wayne,

Thanks for that clarification. I was at an H'bird seminar about 6 weeks ago, and I thought they sd you could change the settings in snapshot as well but, I must have misunderstood. Guess I will have to start making recordings now. Regardless, that is an awesome feature of the h'bird units IMO. I hope to gain a great amount of knowledge while viewing some recordings in my garage. Just have to wait for the wind to stop blowing so I can go and make a few recordings.

Do a web search for HumViewer and download that software (Free) to your computer.

That program will read the Humminbird recordings from the SD card and display all the data.

Just to confirm...you have to be viewing the recordings on your hb unit to make changes in your settings correct?

You can not upload the recordings to your computer and make changes in the settings.

All of the data is recorded and can be manipulated during playback on the unit or with HumViewer. You can change views, colors, settings, see multi-views, etc.

A recording is the same type of file as the Simulator in the unit menu.

HumViewer does not have as many color pallets as the unit does.

The recorded file cannot be changed, but how it is viewed can be changed.

good info. I will have to go download that humviewer software.

Thanks
