Hey is there any experienced fishermen out there that could give me some good tips on fishing a small lake. Its a pretty small lake, with not very good structure. The water's pretty murky also. Thank you!

I would start by throwing a LIpless Crank bait (rattle trap). Varying retrievals. You can cover lots of water. Run it on the bottom to get a feel down there. Then go from there. I fish the Xr50 one knocker, foxy shad alot, and catch fish all the time.

I fish a small soil conservation lake in Texas and always have good luck with terminator spinnerbaits with a turtle shell blade, white 3 inch grubs with a pink jighead, and just recently baby brush hogs in bullfrog color on a 1/4 ounce shaky head jig. My lake is 5 feet low with a lot of vegetation as well. Good luck!

Thanks guys! I do catch some off of plastic worms, primarly white trick worm, but im a fixing to start fishing this lake with a crank bait some, also gonna give spinner bait a try too.

Yea just try all different colors and sizes! You'll find something that works!

My favorite plastic is a baby brush hog watermelon red flake texas rigged on a 3/0 or 2/0 hook with a 1/8 ounce slip weight love it great through brush ,pads really anywhere you can throw it but the trees :-) there is always cover just gotta find it great search bait as stated is a liples crank!

Where are you fishing? Baby brush hogs always come through for me. I find myself buying another pack every other week cause they are that good. Green pumpkin is my go to color. Senkos are always a good choice, I use yum dingers, they're cheaper and more durable. Work just the same to me.

One of my favorite lakes is also rather small, and has murky water. The baby brush hogs do well there as well as a bitsy bug jig with yum trailers. I use green and brown as well as black and blue.

Your location and the conditions of the pond are most important. Such as where you're located. What's the water temp? Those two conditions there would give you a sight on the possibility of the fish being on the beds. If they are, as most are in the southern region of the states then it's going to be rather difficult getting them to bite unless you can see them on their beds.

Well the lake im fishing out of is located in south alabama. just 45 minutes from the beach, so the waters warm. I am going to give the baby brush hog and run for the money and let yall know if its working good. but thanks for the tips guys!

hey man if there is less visible cover also try throwin a Zoom fluke/swim bait to cover more water. Try to match the fluke with the forage that is available. For example, i fish small ponds in jacksonville florida and right after the spawn, the fish crush a zoom baby bass colored fluke. Maybe there are lots of brim in this lake? try to choose a color with red or orangeish tint. Happy fishin!

Thanks FishUNF! they usually do tear a fluke up, but they're just not biting flukes right now. Like i said earlier I've had a lot of success so far off of the ZOOM white trick worm. But as the year goes on the fishing can only get better! Keep the tips coming guys please! and thanks for the tips so far!

I've a teenage daughter who bought me for fathers day years ago a pink rooster because she liked the color. You know that one was one of the most successful ones I've used? Who'da thought? I also agree with the rattle trap spots or sunfish. For a small lake / large pond I would use a medium to small size just to get action. Post pictures when you can! Let us have a look at this lake.
