I'm wanting to sell my old laptop but need some help with restoring it back to factory settings for whoever buys it. I googled it and came up with different answers. Has anyone here restored there's back to factory settings before? It's a Toshiba Satellite W/ Vista, I appreciate any help fellas.

Do you have the window's cd that came with it? If you do, you can just do a clean install and it will erase everything.

Unfortunately I don't have the disk. I'll try a search for the specific model it is and see if there is a way to clean it

Depending on the Make and Model there may be a recovery partition on the laptop. You will have to do a search online about how to access the recovery partition during start up to restore the computer to factory settings.

if the Toshiba has a recovery partition (which it might because it is running Vista) what you want to do is turn on the computer and spam F8. Then the very first option will say "repair my computer" and select that. then it will load up the repair console with different options such as , system restore, command line, mem test, but there will also be "restore my computer to factory image". click on that. then it will ask for a disk or perhaps you will need to point it to the recovery partition.

Too see if you have a recovery partition. Load windows regularly. then click start>right click computer> select manage. then when the console loads, on the side select "disk management". that tells you the partitions your HDD has. If it has a recovery partition it will be labeled with a letter "such as E or D".

If you do not have a recovery partition, your only other choice is to borrow a vista disc from someone, and load it with the CD key located on the sticker on the bottom of your laptop.

if you have any questions or would like to do a remote session with me, please do not hesitate to PM or post in this thread.
