So, I recently got a 703c and love it and already want to get another. I'd like to get something a little stronger, but retain the light weight and balance. If I go the 704 route, will I see much of a difference from the 703? I don't fish a ton of heavy slop or mats, but it might see some frog use on lily pads every now and then. But I need to keep it versatile.

If the frog use is very sparce, go with the 704c.

Oh, and I would get the Dobyns Savvy Series, 704c. I think you would like it more, and it is better balanced.

I wouldn't say the amount of frogging would be sparse, it just wouldn't be in really heavy cover. Only good ol' Pennsylvania lily pads

I would go with the 734, either the Powell or the Savvy.

I prefer 7' rods. Last year, a 6'6" MHF Quantum Tenacity combo from Dick's handled the frogging I did as well as texas rigs and jigs. I've narrowed it down to the 704c or 705c Powell, I just want to know if there's a big jump in weight, balance and backbone from the 703 to 704 before I jump up to the 705. I like the Powell so much I'd get both if I could

I'm a little surprised by how much more it seems to weigh than the 703C. Seems like a considerable jump in overall weight and even tip action for just one power heavier. At least, that's how it feels to me. I'll be able to tell more once I actually get to use it. Unfortunately, that won't be for a few days.

You will like the 704c. It does well with texas rigs, football jigs, and I throw frogs on it often in milfoil and its plenty enough backbone to get good fish out of cover.

Powell 704C is my go to rod...I love that thing, you can literally throw anything on that rod! Unfortunatly my battery fell on my rod Monday and broke it in three peices, but Powell warranty is great! They said just send it in with the $40 warranty fee and they will give me a new one!!
