Yet Another Braid Question.

Featured Replies

This is the first season I have used braid, and I absolutely love it and probably won't ever go back to mono. I don't use a leader since most of the water I fish isn't clear, and I notice that the first few inches get frayed. How often do you guys find the need to cut off that frayed line?

If you're fishing around rocks, that is what is fraying your line.

I'm almost always fishing weeds, which braid excels at. I don't see the fraying at the end. My most common reason for cutting and retying is the line wrapping around hooks, getting into line ties, split rings, etc., and related problems that seem unique to braid.

If it's frayed, cut and re-tie...there's no generic answer. I've had a Spro Bronze-eye tied on for an entire season without re-tying, and C-rigs that needed maintenance two or three times an outing. Any number of factors can influence the longevity of your terminal rigging whether your spooling braid, mono, or floro. You're paying attention to your line condition, that's the key.

I think this is what is happening. The other day I was using a t-rig with a bullet weight. After catching a few fish I noticed the line where the bullet had been sliding was very worn. I guess I will have to pay close attention and re-tie if needed.
