Fluoro Knots

Featured Replies

Fluoro brought the need for a new knot. The Double San Diego Jam seemed to be the knot of choice. Testing left something to be desired so I experimented. A mod of the Double San Diego was the result. Start in the normal way but take only 4 turns on the standing part. Instead of passing thru the loop at the hook eye end, pass thru the double loops at the other end. That's it. Draw down. Very easy. Repeated testing proves this knot to be 100%+. The line breaks before the knot every time. I have tested this only on 10# fluoro. Here-in-after known as Jim's knot.

I use the improved clinch on braid, mono, and flouro... Never has my knot failed.. I have yet to see a reason for a different knot for each of the three. Now different setups needing different rigs obviously there are some different knots.

I only use the palomar, imimproved clinch, and uni to uni knot. I have never had a knot fail me. If I get a snag the line will break or I will bend the hook. I guess I don't see the need to know more a few basic knots.

urp, you've perfectly described how to tie a Pitzen, or 16/20 knot.

I use the trilene knot on mono and fluoro ,and a uni knot on braid...Uni to uni for a splice.

All I use for everything, my knots never fail, unless tied bad. Caught 200# Blacktip today, ordinary clinch with mono.

Try and second wrap on the improved clinch with braid, it will protect you better from pull thru.
