Okay, I've been stepping up my game for bass fishing in the last year from amateur to "intermediate" level. Got some better gear, starting using bait caster, and learning about various soft and hard bait techniques. Yesterday I finally tried the Drop Shot. I've now a HUGE fan. I've seen the light!

Fished from shore on a 3 acre pond and a large lake, and did very well at both (9 fish in 2 hrs).

My rig consisted of a Gamakatsu Drop/Split Shot 1/0 Hook, 3/16 drop shot weight, 4" Strike King 3x finesse worm ("Dirt" color), 8lb mono line. Water was very clear.

Thanks to all at Bass Resource for the tips. I seemed to get most strikes after gently moving the worm (and not pulling the weight off the bottom), as soon as I stopped moving the line and the worm was settling. Subtle motion of worm worked best.

I'm hoping this technique will work well with my young son because it involves minimal casting, and more activity than something like crawlers and a bobber.

i finally fished it at a private pond this past Saturday and did pretty well with it. Definitly, going to use that more!

I first saw the drop-shot about 14 years ago when I hired a guide on Table Rock - I thought the guy was nuts until we started snagging spotted bass in 30' of water. Used to use it a lot and then got away from it. This year one of my fishing buddies decided to start d/s'n and has been calling me every evening to tell me about the numbers and the size he is catching from our local lake. Thinking in may give a try this weekend at our club tournament.

Going to try this this year, as well. How far up the line were you tying the hook?
