  1. Went out to Kill Creek and fished from shore. VERY windy, so I rigged up a Neko rig for the first time and got 2. Switched over to a Jerk Bait and started having much more success. Everyone else was fishing for trout (thanks to recent stockings and submitted state record). Closer to sun down the wind died down and the water turned to glass. Kept telling the dog, "Just one more..." but I couldn't get myself to leave when the fish kept coming in.
  2. I've had good success with them. Last time out I wanted to try something different than my usual Texas rig, so I tried nose-hooked weightless, and had good success. I wanted the bait to suspend as much as possible above a very mossy bottom...
  3. I'm switching over to braid + fluro leader for my spinning finesse rigs. I was assuming that I'd just use regular fluorocarbon line for the leader. However, I've just noticed several manufacturers make designated "leader" material. Is it important to use the special "leader" fluro, or does regular fluro line work just fine?
  4. +1 I picked one up on sale + rebate. Happy with performance so far.
  5. Okay, I've been stepping up my game for bass fishing in the last year from amateur to "intermediate" level. Got some better gear, starting using bait caster, and learning about various soft and hard bait techniques. Yesterday I finally tried the Drop Shot. I've now a HUGE fan. I've seen the light! Fished from shore on a 3 acre pond and a large lake, and did very well at both (9 fish in 2 hrs). My rig consisted of a Gamakatsu Drop/Split Shot 1/0 Hook, 3/16 drop shot weight, 4" Strike King 3x finesse worm ("Dirt" color), 8lb mono line. Water was very clear. Thanks to all at Bass Resource for the tips. I seemed to get most strikes after gently moving the worm (and not pulling the weight off the bottom), as soon as I stopped moving the line and the worm was settling. Subtle motion of worm worked best. I'm hoping this technique will work well with my young son because it involves minimal casting, and more activity than something like crawlers and a bobber.
  6. I just started teaching my 7 year old. The hardest part about it all is MY patience, and not being able to fish for some stretches. But, that's part of being a parent, eh? I put on some good mono line, a lure with decent weight, and adjusted the reel as much as possible. I'm letting him practice in short sessions, then he goes back to the spinning gear. My son has excellent hand/eye coordination and is making good progress. I say try it and see how it goes.

  8. I'm in the same situation - a bank fisherman who's hittin all the small ponds/lakes in Johnson county. There's quite a few. Is all the traffic stuff cleared up for Cedar yet? Will hit Lenexa Lake this weekend for first time.
