Best Lures For Cloudy Overcast Days?

Featured Replies

In New York it feels like it's been raining every single day for the past month. I've had some luck using the rapala jointed top water crankbait but haven't had any luck with many other lures. What do you guys like to use on cloudy days, im going out this morning and i think im going to try a hula popper and see how that goes.

I use all the same lures I would on other days just change up colors depending on how suny it is

Used the hula popper had some nice hits on it. Also caught two pretty good sized fish on some worms. Can never go wrong with the worms

When it comes to using plastic during cloudy overcast days... I'm looking for anything BLACK.

Ya i remember someone telling me when theres dark water use dark lures? is that true? I used a pretty dark greenish blackish color this morning caught these 2, which are pretty decent for the small lake i fish in.

Dark colored baits for dingy water and overcast days. B)

Flukes are my go to baits when its cloudy and the bass are feeding up.. i like white so i can see the bait allthe way back to the boat

I like a black/blue jig, and any dark plastics.

We have the same conditions here in MA as you have. Today I went out to a little res that had slick water and a ton of pumpkinseed eating of the top. I tried what I thought would be a great topwater day. Wrong, 1 fish. I tried spinnerbaits and got nothing. Jigs with a twin tail grub turned out to be the ticket, for today anyway. I got 6 in 1.5 hours and missed 3 others. All the fish were in flooded brush, laydowns and along rocky banks. The bite was agressive enough, but they just weren't chasing lure today.

So, in a nut shell, I treat overcast days like any other and go thru a process elimination until the fish tell me what they want.

TOPWATER! Always keep the topwater baits handy. Sun goes behind the clouds, grab it!
