Featured Replies

I was just at cabelas and they said that i should try the weight that looks like a pencil bc it doesnt get caught up as much...do you guys use this type of weight? where can i find it? If you dont let me know what in your opinion is the best weight and size.

Thanks

There is no best size, nor a best style.  The cylindrical weights seem to come through grass a bit better than the round weights.

Choosing a size is dependent on the water depth you're fishing and the wind.

The Mojo weights, which are cylinrical do hang up in rocky areas, at least in my case, they do go through weeds ect, better..don't recall what size I have..

When I'm fishing for SM, I use 1/4 oz. steel (lead is prohibited in some waters in my state) bass casting type sinkers. I've fished this weight in 10' - 45' of water with no problems. Some of our SM waters are rocking....some are weedy. Doesn't seem to matter much, as far as the sinker goes - to me anyway.

I use the cylinrical Mojo Weights, but not in its stock configuration. I modify it slightly so it does not hang up as much in rocks. What I do is thread the weight on the tag end, grab the weight about 1/2 way down, squeeze it so it holds on the line and then bend it almost 90 degrees to resemble a Lindy weedless weight.

When flipping a drop shot I use a standaed casting sinker. Cheap, inexpensive and effective. In my opinion there is really no need to buy the over priced specialized drop shot weights.
