Rattlin Rapala

Recommended Posts

All rite guys this is my first post so dont be too harsh. I ordered some rattlin raps from a site kus they were cheap. They show up and I didnt realize that they were size 7. To me just getting started in Largemouth fishing and used to fishing only trout these look like a huge lure. So my question is are they too big for largemouth?

Remember, they are called 'LARGEmouth' for a reason :D

Size 7 is 2 3/4" long ---> Perfect for both largemouth and smallmouth

Though if you were surprised at the size of these, I'm guessing you probably aren't setup to throw them. You may want to go out and pick up a 6 1/2' or so medium/medium-heavy fast action rod with matching reel, if you haven't got one already.

Good Luck!!!

Welcome :D

Bass love large lures. Oftentimes lure size is a major trigger. Don't be afraid to lean toward larger rather than smaller.

I heard Bill Dance say once that a 2 1/2 lb. LM bass could eat a 9 in. shad.  I doubt they are to big.

I can understand why they'd look large to you, with your experience being with trout. But be assured that these are not at all large by bass standards. You can use them with confidence.

2 lb bass are frequently caught on 8 inch shiners in my neck of the woods.
