I just got the Avid but am thinking about possibly upgrading with these memorial day sales and selling my Avid. This rod would be paired with a Pflueger Patriarch on Power Pro 50lb braid . I want to use this exclusively for 1/8oz Texas rigged plastics, mainly Brush Hogs. Ive never used a Dobyns or a split grip but have heard great things about them from different forums. My main concern is sensitivity. Is the Dobyns 703c a more sensitive rod than the Avid? BTD has the Dobyns for $192 shipped.

Dobyns should be more sensitive. I would seriously recommend selling it and upgrading to a Champion 704c. You will come to appreciate the added power.

Throwing a 1/8th oz t.rig with a 703c sounds about right.

I have the Avid you own(7' MH/F), and also some Dobyns Champions. The Champions are quite a bit more sensitive than Avids. They are just a better overall rod.

I don't own a 703C or 704C, but I have handled them. The 704C is more comparable in power to the Avid 7' MH/F. I'm not sure if you want the same power as the Avid, but the 703C would be a drop in power.

I went ahead and ordered the Champion. I cant wait to test it out.

Sorry, I misread the title.

There is no wat a 703 is "comparable" in power to a St Croix M power. The 703 is a MH, it is a little under the SC MH but the 704 is more powerful.

So what would you say is the closest in the Dobyns to a St Croix M? St Croix rods are underrated. There M is like a MH to most other brands.

Here's the specs on the two. They are nearly the same, regardless of the medium or medium heavy designation. I think that's about as close as you're going to get.
