What crankbaits to use around weeds?

Featured Replies

I fish from a pond from the bank. I fish around alot of underwater weeds. These weeds are all around the pond i fish. What crankbaits not be a weed-magnet. I intend not to spend over $10 for a crankbait because I lose alot of lures.

Lipless crankbaits

X2, 3, 4

x5.6.7 but with weeds what ill do sometimes is swap out the back hook on the lure to a size or two smaller then the one on there for less chances of geting snagged.get yourself some of the one knocker lipless cranks..work great!!!!!

Use shallow runners, but hold your rod tip high.  Holding your rod tip high with a quick retrieve puts upward pressure on your crank to keep it running shallow.  However, if the weeds are only a foot under the surface....a 1ft crank like a minus-1 may be the only option.  Moonsault cb-50 would be a go-to in this situation.

As the Natural mentioned shallow runners are a great tool for this application, one of the best and most affordable options is the Mann's Baby 1 Minus. There are number of wake style cranks out there as well such as the Excalibur Wake , Ima Roumba, Jackall Cherry Zero footer, Mann's etc that would be a great addition as well. Another alternative if you have't already tried it is a swim jig, my favorite is the 1/4 oz. Outkast with a Yamamoto 5" single tail grub but there are many others that will also do a great job for you.

In your situation fishing from the bank, shallow runners and lipless are your best bet.  As a general response to your question, I would answer that you can use all crankbaits around weeds.  Fishing deeper diving cranks over the top of deeper weeds is great.  Crank the lure down till you feel it hit the weeds, stop for a second or two to let it float back up above them, then do it all over again.
