I bought a cheap six dollar scale yesterday and tried using it but it was only telling me that the two fish I weighed were only at a pound and I know they were both more than that. I placed the hook of the scale on the lower gill from the outside of the fish...is that the right way to way a fish or is there a better way? or could it possibly just be a very bad scale?

Might be a bad scale.... I used to have a cheap one that would guess below the actual weight, then I bought a digital one and it has always been accurate

It's probably just the scale. I weigh fish the same way and it works fine.

it doesn't matter how you hook to the fish, it will weigh the same. You may have just discovered the worse thing for a die hard fisherman.........that the fish you are catching aren't as big as you thought they were  ;D

well its the scale, I weighed a gallon of water on it and it only weighed 4 pounds but should way around 8 so I went ahead and returned it.  Anyone have any suggestions on a good inexpensive scale? maximum around 30 dollars
