Umbrella For 2 Man Bass Boat

Recommended Posts

Okay so got a 2 man bass boat last week, which I love. However I'm wanting to rig up some kind of umbrella to keep the sun off me and the 6 year old. If I can keep the 6 year old cool, means I can stay longer, and everyone is happy. I know everyone has made modifications to there little plastic boats, but can't seem to find anything like this.

Curious if anyone has rigged up something that works. Still got the original bucket seats that came with the boat. I've got ideas, Walmart has a 64' Taylormade Umbrella for like $23.86 online, which is way cheaper than Cabela's, Dicks, or Bass Pro.

No quite sure that was what I was talking about  Might have a tough time convincing my fishing partner into wearing that. Although it would work........

Was thinking more of getting the umbrella from Walmart, and using some PVC to make a holder to bolt/clamp to the seat or seat bracket. Was hoping someone might already had this idea, or something similiar, and save myself some brain cells.

I have a couple of the umbrella hats, LOL. I like those when it is raining so I don't have to use the rain jacket hood that makes my neck tired. Not too good on a windy day though.

I made a PVC pipe umbrella holder for my boat that just slips over the seat pedistal. I sized it to fit a golf umbrella and have an adaptor to fit a beach umbrella too that is 7' diameter (haven't used that yet).

For your boat type, if you have a flat place to attach a pipe flange, mount that and then screw a section of PVC into it to hold the umbrella. Adaptors for different PVC sizes and types are available at Lowes or Home Depot. Put a bolt through the pipe to limit how far into the pipe that the umbrella handle goes.

I used my umbrella and holder yesterday when fishing during the mid-day period.

Okay so went by walmart and found a 60 inch umbrella for $10.00. As I'm getting new seats in a couple weeks (padded) thought I'd experiment with these first. Found some PVC pipe, and Epoxied a small piece onto the handle of the umbrella (once I removed the foam handle from it). Then made a wedge and screwed some more PVC onto it. Made sure it was anchored onto the chair good, and made a notch at the top of the chair for the umbrella to go through. Should be able to withstand the wind up to 10-15 mph but we'll see. Also made it adjustable up and down, for me or the 6 year old. Main idea is keep the little one cool & shaded so I can stay out longer. Once she's hot / bored, its generally game over, and sometimes 2 hours just isn't long enough on the water for me.

If this idea works out, then maybe I'll try something a little more stylish when I get my new padded seats, but for $10.00, its worth a try.

Little one wanted her 1st Catfish put on here, so enjoy.
