I'd be very surprised if you caught a snake head out at Lox. I'd be willing to bet it was a Mudfish. They both look very similar.

As far as what to do, keep trying. The fish are there. The spillways almost always hold fish. Especially if the water is pumping. Find moving water and you'll be in the right areas. Of course there are those days that it seems like nothing works. I've learned from my time at Lox to keep everything simplified. Big worms, dippers/EZ's, traps, and senkos are usually all you need to have a good day. If you're there earlier, or later in the day, a frog or a spook is a great way to get a bite out there. d**n good fun too. With the water levels back up right now, there should be some actively feeding fish. Finding them is an entirely different story.

Don't get me wrong, conditions change day to day and that's why its called fishing. I put in at Southern ramp, but basically fish from spots all the way down to the Lox Rd. ramp stopping at different points along the way. You need to cover ground, not just concentrate on the flats, as I tend to see most people do. You can pretty much always grind out a five fish limit fishing the main canal by making parallel cast to the bank and covering water with the trolling motor close to full speed with lipless cranks or spinnerbaits. When you do find an area that holds fish, note it and next time you come back across it slow down with other techniques, senko, t-rig and such. Keep at it.

Robert is right...Lox can be a tough nut to crack but the fish are there. He and I had a 23lb bag (5fish) three days ago and I caught well over 100 fish there yesterday.

The fish move around alot out there and you need to move to find them. I had six fish after four hours yesterday. When I finally did find them, I caught fish virtually every other cast for two hours straight. It really didn't matter what I threw either.

Btw, the second place I went was where Robert and I whupped em 36hours earlier. I didn't get a bite, there! You gotta be willing to run around a little bit and go find those fish. I went through 15 gallons of gas, Saturday, and my 850lb flats boat sips fuel compared to most bass boats.

I have been fishing Lox since the seventies. When the water levels are changing you have to locate the bass because they will be moving around. Look for floodgates that are letting water into the refuge. The bass will head to areas that have a higher oxygen content and for the easy meal. That is what makes Lox so unpredictable. On Monday they are letting the water in up north or west, and then Tuesday they are back pumping the city water from the east.

When things are stable in the spring, look for areas that are good spawning grounds. sandy bottom areas that have good cover and deep water near by.
