Catalyst Pt Vs Revo Sx

Featured Replies

So I'm at a dilemma. I have been looking to buy a new reel/combo, and I have two things that I have my eyes set on. The Revo SX with a Vendetta at a local shop for $208 or a Quantum Catalyst for $129. I have already talked to him about the Revo Combo where he priced me the $208 versus $169 + $79 = $268. I'm pretty sure he had $129 on the catalyst, which I will probably just put on my Quantum Burst rod or buy another rod similar to it for roughly $45, and I'm sure that I could possibly get the Catalyst a little cheaper, but no guarantees. But my question is, does anyone have both of these reels, and can give me some insight on which one is better, and by how much, things like that. And people that have one or the other, and can give me some pros and cons. I have read reviews on both, but I'm mostly looking for someone that has, or has had both of these them, and can tell me which one is a better deal. I want the Revo, but mainly because of a youtube review that I seen, and I think he was actually from this forum.

Again, thanks for everyone's input in advance.

My second baitcaster was a Quantum code that I still have and fish with occasionally, I also have an Energy that I really like. I've had 2 Revo Ss, an Sx, and a Premier, all of which I have rid myself of and unless Abu steps it up, my Toro will be the only revo I'll own. Of all the revos I've had, the '10 SX was the best. I'm not a large fan of either company but I'd have no problem buying another quantum.

I have an SX. It casts excellent, smooth drag, strong, and durable.

Its paired up with a Vendetta. Its easily my favorite setup.

I don't have any experience with Quantum.

My buddy pretty much exclusively fishes with Quantums and he's REALLY getting tired of the backlashing on the higher end models. The buldge on the palming side of the reel puts the magnet adjustment right under the nuckles of his index and middle finger. When he casts them he inadvertanly turns the magnet adjustment way down and I am treated to a beautiful song titled "Buzzz FITZ! G.D. That Dial!!!"

I've read others have the same problem. Palm the Catalyst and see if you think that it would be an issue. IMHO the Revo is a nice reel, but if I had $200 I'd get a closeout Citica and match it to a closeout Crucial (TW and ALFC respectively)

I have 4 of the revo SX's and 2 Quantums. The revo's are my favorite reels out of all of them. Never had a problem with them, but I have never had a problem with my Quantums either. Personally, I prefer the revo's, great reels.

It seems as a lot of people are feeling the same thing as me about the Revo's. I don't know what it is about them that pulls me towards them, but whatever it is, it works! My first real baitcaster was an abu black maxx, and somehow I hate that reel compared to my quantum, but I still lean towards the revo.

go for the revo but,

before you go for a revo sx try a revo s, I much prefer the "s" I don't like the magnetic brakes on the "sx"

good luck
