Backlashes After Reassembly...

Featured Replies

My Calcutta 300TE, paired with an 8ft. Carrot Stix Microguide, was casting perfectly, but was due for its first thorough cleaning....

I watched the Shimano Youtube video....I can do this! Way wrong...

After reassembly, it backlashes with all brakes engaged and the casting control tightened so the lure barely creeps in free spool... The overrun can begin anywhere from the beginning to the end of the cast. It is fully spooled (eighth inch from lip) with fresh 12 lb. fluro....Aside from attempting this myself, what did I do wrong, and what do I do now??

Thanks,

Sid

Sometimes the spool can be set in in correctly and still fit and seem like its functioning correctly, make sure all your screws are tightened down then insert the spool, then the side plate, then the cast control knob.

Did you possibly lose a small brass shim in the cast control knob, or was it knocked off center?

Are all the centrifigal brakes out of the lock position?

These are a few common things that could have happened??? I'd just check it to be sure.

Probably nothing, it sounds like a reel that has been cleaned and service properly for the very first time.

Aside from maybe needing new shims, most properly serviced reels take relearning when done right.

Setup the reel with the rod using the suggested line/lure weight for the rod. Then start test casting to find the proper reel setup for your style of casting...

Tight Lines! :fishing1:
