First Baitcasting Setup

Featured Replies

hey all,

i'm looking to buy my first baitcasting setup. I mostly fish for LM bass with texas rigs, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits but I also fish for pike with 1 oz spoons on occasion, so I'm looking for something pretty versatile. I've been reading a lot of reviews and I'm considering getting a Daiwa Tierra and matching it with a 7' mh berkley lightning or lightning shock rod. Does this setup make sense? Any other suggestions in the same price range?

Any input would be greatly appreciated,

thanks

Not my 1st choice in rods, but that combo will work. I have that rod, and for a few more bucks there is much better out there. Think Saint Croix Premier, Abu Vendetta, Falcon Buccoo, etc. Huge leap in sensitivity when you jump to that $80 to $100 range in rods.

X2 and there are better offerings from Cabelas like the Prodigy which is right at the $100 price point
