Fishing As A Team

Featured Replies

hey. this season i want to learn how to fish. so far i have been going out every saturday morning since the season opened, 3 times so far. i go out with a friend who is also learning. when we go, we have a friendly competition. however, we plan on entering a couple of local tournaments. so i want to know, how do you fish as a team?? i mean, maybe one uses a lure and the other one uses another thing, and if one starts getting strikes, the other one changes to the same lure?? or, do you do it just as if you were fishing on your own?? is there really a difference?? we are fishing out of an old bass boat, im driving from one point to the other, he drives the trolling motor when we get there...

I have a fishing partner who has teamed fished with me for 35 yrs; our fishing style is almost identical which I believe is necessary to become a successful team. We trust each others judgments on the water so when one of us is “on” that one takes control of the boat and one of us is always “on”. When both of us are “on” you just donated your entry fee!

It would be difficult for a finesse fisherman and a power fisherman to be a team, it would be difficult for a spinner bait fisherman and a crank bait fisherman to be a team ect. When tends to happen with “opposites” is that team spends too much time going from one area to another and one technique to another.

When both of us are “on” you just donated your entry fee!

This is nice! :D Catt I love hearing your T Bend facts, so whats the biggest bag you have caught on the bend?

thanx. since we are both learning, i guess we will learn more or less the same at the same time...

so, for instance, if you are looking for fish, does each one uses a different lure of the same type (like 2 spinnerbaits in different colors) or is it better for one to use a spinnerbait and the other one a crankbait, and then when one begins catching fish, the other one switches to the same lure??

The best thing to do is to have already established a pattern before the tournament :D

It sounds to me like you two should join a club. B)

well, maybe when we become more proficient fishing and get used to the lakes around here, we will have a pattern established...

and Grey Wolf, how do clubs work?? we are not even in the US, i know there are fishing clubs in my city, but i dont know how they work... since we have a lot of other things to do, right now we plan on fishing every saturday morning, and sometimes sundays too, and by 10 am we are back home to do some other things....

You join the club fish together and have club tournaments which have another entry fee (usually ) ,and you can learn a lot from these people about local bodies of water and catch some nice fish !!

Hookingem - For me when i pre fish usually i am basically just fishing , looking for structure, drop offs, and point. Basically learning the lake when i establish a pattern i keep it in mind but usually in summer months the fish are moving and chasing bait so much its hard to fish a pattern that worked two days ago but pre fishing does help with learning the lake and marking way points such as drop offs , points, and structure that they may be sitting on or will be when conditions change but my experiance is when i find a pattern pre fishing if i get stuck on it during the tournament i usually dont do to well .

honestly you will find what works best for you we are here to guid you in the right direction .

thanx Tallent.

from what i have seen, local clubs make tournaments but they invite the other clubs, and they also invite people who is not in a club... so basically, there are 5 tournaments this season, each one of them organized by a different club... we have 3 major lakes relatively close (2-3 hour drive) so, 2 lakes will host 2 tournaments, and 1 lake will only host 1.... but they 5 will be organized by different clubs....

the lake i am fishing right now is only 20 minutes from my house... its small, and doesnt really has a lot of big fish, but i think its a good way to learn, since i can go every weekend, and even though i havent done it, i am planning on going after work too... i caught a 1.5 lb bass this saturday, and i know there are bigger fish there.... not really trophys, but fun anyways....

and i am asking about tournament fishing because theres a tournament on the last weekend of july, and we would like to go, most of all to know the other people, and learn how tournaments work.... but, if we can have a little advice, i think we could make it much more enjoyable....

Have fun. If your not having fun you will NOT fish as well. Period.

you want to give us baits for those? my guess is at least two of the days were dominated by jigs, one spinnerbaits, one?
