Cave Run - Ky

Featured Replies

Planning a trip there this weekend. I know it is know for the Muskie, but I wanted to see if anyone has fished it for bass and get any feedback they might have. I do not have the equipment for Muskie, but I do hear they are fun to catch. It is a good size lake, so any helpful hints on areas to concentrate would also be appreciated. THANKS!

I personally never had much luck there, but i have'nt fished Cave Run in over 10 years. Im going down to fish it in the Fall, and someone told me I had to stop at Jerry"s bait shop.( i think its about 5 miles away from the lake) That might be a good place to call or stop by for some insight. Hope this helps ya, though I will be asking the same question in the fall.

We are staying at Lake View Motel and I think they have common ownership with Hook, Line and Sinker so I might have to pick their brain. From the things I have read, the lake appears to have some good grass beds that house the Muskie, so I am assuming the bass won't be too far away. The plan is to stick with my top waters in early evening and morning as well as my senko's. I just am not sure if I want to add a wire leader to my bait while fishing for bass. I have read stories about bass fisherman loosing their favorite lure to a nice size muskie...

I caught a 45" 25lb Musky June 1, 1981 on a Lunker Lure Buzz Bait and 17lb Stren line with no steel leader. Was caught in standing timber in North Fork just downstream from boat ramp. Smallmouth, Spots, and Largemouth. Fish brush, rock, grass beds, and points. White Bass may be schooling, White Rooster Tail.

Can't help you on Cave Run, sorry

However, coming from Michigan I can tell you that I have lost hundreds of $$$$ in lures to the toothy critters. They will not ALWAYS cut your line but your percentages are highly increased. Musky and Pike will hit everything a bass will hit. They make ver flexible wire leaders and you can get them at BPS in Cincy. Far right side of fishing department, first or second aisle by the right corner near the lure making accessories.

Good luck and post your results.

Thanks Triton and Sfritr! I have braided line on both of my rods, so I guess I have a decent shot if one hits, but I will see if I can get up to BPS prior to leaving. If not I will try Dick's. Is the white bass fishing pretty good at Cave?

Sfritr, I hope I can post some results!
