Duckett Review

Featured Replies

Ok, first I gotta tell you I'm a beginner. I have fished with lots of Wal-Mart specials, lol! About a month ago I bought a Curado 200E7 and an Allstar 6'6" MH rod and loved that setup. It was a lot better than my Wal-Mart combos.

About 2 weeks ago I decided to buy a Duckett 7'0" MH. I put the Curado 200E7 with mono 15# on it and I'm amazed at the difference in the Duckett rod and the Allstar rod. The Duckett rod was about $50 more than the Allstar rod but it felt like a $400 difference, lol.

The first thing you notice about the Duckett when you pick one up is how light it is. When casting the first thing you notice is the distance. Yesterday, I was fishing with a 3/4 oz spook with no brake tension and with the Duckett rod, I can cast that thing a country mile. B)

I'm so impressed that I bought a 6'6" M the other day at BPS. I’m going to put a Curado 50E on that Duckett.

Have any of you tried a Duckett? I'm wondering how it compares to some of the more expensive rods. :)

I like my duckett more than any other rod I have. I have only tried two models. 7ft and 7'3" both MH. I have every intentions on trying the cranking version and a smaller model for jerkbaits and topwaters as well. I was suprised that when fishing in below freezing conditions this rod actually does not ice up nearly as much as other rods. I thought it may freeze up all the guides since they were so small, but the first eye acts as a squeegee and wicks most of the water away. great rod all the way around IMO

I'm not a big fan of the Duckett rods, I've never fished one but breaking was an issue at first and I don't like the cork on white or the epoxy they use, yellows easily against the white. I mostly just think they are ugly but having felt them in store and such, they feel impressive, really nice weight and balance. Terry Scroggins said they addressed the breaking issues on later models on day of the lake live, just before he boat flipped a 10lber.

They may not be pretty...But I'm not in it for the looks when it comes to most of my rods/reels. Actually, my duckett has a carbonlite reel on it. You wanna talk about one ugly combo, thats it. But it feels awesome! It may only catch fish because they wanna come up and laugh, but with that kind of lightness and sensitivity, I will fish it and have them laugh at me all day.
