Hi I'm Anthony and I'm new to this site this is my first forum. I'm a long time fisherman but I also just moved to Richmond/chesterfield va and I don't know any fishin spots here. I live about a mile away from falling creek reservoir. Does anybody know how the fishing is at falling creek and do you know any other good bass fishin spots ?

Welcome to the site and Richmond. Without a boat, Innsbrooks at Lake Rooty is a nice place to go, it's in the Westend, on the corner of Nuckles and Cox Rd. Or any of the local parks and few spots on the James(i.e Pony Pasture or Pipeline)on foot (or Wading). Have you visited the VA Department of Game and Inland Fisheries? There's endless places to fish, thats in or close to Richmond, if you have a boat (some places you can rent a jon). I usually go out to the Chickamony @ Ed's Ellen, behind Brown's Island, Maury St. boat ramp, Swift Creek, Pocahontas park or Osborne Landing to name a few.

Anthony, there are many places to fish in the greater Richmond geographical area.

Go to Tackle Express on Midlothian Turnpike or any Wal-Mart or Dick's Sporting Goods store and pick up a copy of the free Freshwater Fishing in Virgnia phamphlet from the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.

Then go to Staples or Barnes & Noble and secure a copy of the ADC Mapbook of the greater Richmond area which includes the surrounding counties. Excellent investment.

The DG&IF phamphlet lists places to fish all over the place and you can find them on the mapbook plus other places to fish by looking for the various ponds and lakes.

As for Falling Creek, I dont' fish that body of water as there are better places to fish in the area.

We have a good group of Richmond guys on the Forum and they will give you their suggestions, too.

Good luck. :)

Where is Tackle Express!? ;)

Tackle Express is at the intersection of Midlothian and Robious. There used to be more, but I think thats the last one.

Powhatan Lakes and Powhatan Ponds have been popular places as of late. Check the Va DGIF website for public spots to fish.

Pocahontas offers boat rentals as does Bear Creek Lake State Park if you are up for a drive.

Wading out of Maidens Landing is a good option without a boat if you are willing to get wet.

Check out your options for Shad (during the Spring) and Catfishing from the bank on the James if you want to do anything other than bass fishing. The shad are about the most exciting fishing you will find in freshwater VA in my opinion, do not miss this run.

Tackle Express has some awesome people that work there too. ;)

I used to wade up at Maidens before I got a boat. It reminded me so much of the times I used to wade the Cowpasture River back home when I was a lot younger. Good times right there.
