Smoot's Pond

Featured Replies

I got into the water maybe 6:45 and left at 12:30. The water temp started off round 81 and reach 83 by the time I left. The water was very murky but this is how Smoot's is, nothing new. I landed 5 biggest even 2# from what scale said. Landed the 2# on a black/blue jig, Netbait Paca Chunk(same color) fishing in a fallen tree. 4 other on wacky, Senko Plum apple. I lost a good hit later on the same jig. I also tried frogging today but no luck. several misses though on both Deps Basirisky hard belly soft crawler Night Head and Spro Bronzeye65 Midnight Walker. Just bought both of those yesterday to try. Sorry for the date forgot to fix it on the camera.

Depth finder. I had the switchfire set to clear mode when messing with it.

that looks like a sweet little hole

It's ok I heard two different things about Smoot's but I still go and try. 5 in one day there is my best. and 3.12 is the biggest I pulled out of there. but with the way the grass is there man it makes fishing hard. I didn't get to go to the back of the pond like I wanted too. Man talk about lilies, that's all the back of the lake is. Next time I probably try Boyou last I remember it doesn't a grass problem.

Nice man I really like the pictures of the pond - it gives a good idea of where you were fishing. I might have to bite your style and start doing that lol. That fallen tree looks like a nice jiggn area for sure! Nice that you got out for a bit too man and thats a nice little depth finder. I just got the 385ci just a little bit ago and am still tweaking it.

Way to go!

I'm still having a hard time understanding the finder. I turned off fish ID so now it's like where the fish?? Yea I jig a few trees. I like to post pictures of where I fish so I can be open for ideals by others and others can get a feel of the places I fish. Thanks ICU

Here's where I'm confused on what to do besides lower sensitivity. Can't make nothing out at all and know whats what.

This is at sensitivity 11 surface clutter 3

This is at 9 or 10 surface clutter I think at 2

I don't know how make that out?

That pond looks nice with a wide array of cover and structure to fish. I would be trying to flip or pitch to the gnarly looking trees and get way in there or bang a square bill off the bigger stumps and logs.

yeah man I've been tweaking the sensitivity on mine too. I'm so new to all of this and have no one to really let me know the deal so it's kindof trial, error and online research lol.

When I first started using it I was still primarily fishing shallow and i had my sensitivity pretty low - when it was too high I couldn't see anything, just a solid wall of color like your example with sensitivity at 11.

I find you need to tweak it depending on your depth - as I moved deeper with the sensitivity still low I couldn't see any fish and barely any structure, basically the lake looked empty lol. But when I turned the sensitivity way up when deep all of a sudden I see the fish and much more structure. I chose not to turn fish id on.

My other issue is that my transducer is on the transom so it's showing me basically what's behind the boat lol - eventually I'll have two transducers - one on the transom and one on the bow mounted trolling motor. But that might take a little time.

Man if I were in VA we'd go out on the water and figure it all out together lol.

Mine in the transom also. I going to fool seriously hard tomorrow again with the finder.
