Tsi 301

Featured Replies

If you guys ever needed a reel oil that would keep the spool bearing freely w/o re-applying it every mo, TSI 301 is the best one in the market. Just don't get plastic parts get in contact with it. I've used Xtreme reel oil which I like it, but you needed to add a drop at least every week before using the reel. ReelX is okay but does not keep the bearing spin longer like Xtreme reel. Corrosion X is also good but sticky when you stock your reel for a couple of months without using it.

Here's how I use it:

1. Remove the bearings to be oiled.

2. Flush the bearings with those airosol brake cleaners or Carb cleaner using bearing blaster.

3. Air dry the bearings using the canister duster 4. get a small glass bottle and add just enough to submerge the bearing complete.

5. soak the bearing.

6. take the bearing out of the bottle container and let it dry on a table napkin. This will be enough to remove all excess oil.

7. Re-install the bearings.

8. Now you would have less maint to do and more fishing time.

This will keep those bearings spinning longer without re-oiling them every week before using it. I got those 8oz in can, I think it will last me a long time. The price is good but the shipping is a lot. Oh well, at least it cut's down the reel maintenance big time and more time hunting for online bargains. Oh, I still use the corrosion x for the reel handle, worm gear and others.

I bought TSI 321, the same lubricant with a solvent that is not harmful to plastics. It's an excellent lube.

I do not like it for bearings. As baluga reported, your spool bearings will need attention less often when lubed with TSI. They WILL spin more freely. They will also be noisier. I don't like that. I think my reels should be seen and not heard.

Where this stuff excels is on the levelwind. Once dry, it will pick up very little, if any, dirt or grit; but remains lubed for a long time.

I use this lube for the most exposed components; levelwind worm gear and pawl, levelwind bearings, handle bearings, and the inner pinion gear bearings.

I have one reel I'm doing an experiment on. Everything in the reel is lubed with TSI 321 except the drag washers. It's been that way since March. It performs very well, except for the noisier spool bearings. I left the spool bearings lubed with TSI anyway because I want to see if they will last all season. When I tear it down this winter I'll be looking it over with a loupe to see if I can spot any wear.

I'm experimenting with this product as well with similar results. I'm not sure yet if a single treatment will last a whole season or not, or if there are advantages in real world fishingn appliactions. The 301's solvent evaporates so fast I haven't seen any adverse affects as of yet. Let us know what you find and I'll do the same.
