Jig Help

Featured Replies

I have struggled learning jigs.  The lake I fish has a bunch of milfoil on it and I am trying to learn how to fish jigs.  Currently, my approach is to flip/pitch a jig into some holes close to the weedline in about 10-12 ft of water.  Then I'll flip it 5-10 feet from the boat in about 15-20 ft of water right on the outside of the weedline.  I pop the jig a couple of times, sometimes shake the rod tip, or sometimes drag it back.  No takers yet.

Any help on to improving my approach.  Thanks.

How heavy a jig are you using?  the only suggestion I might make is to use a heavier jig and punch through the grass rather than pitching to the holes.  Also, I always have a jig tied on, but don't throw it until I know that there are fish in the area - you can spend a lot of time jig fishing in a non-productive area.
