Chatterbait Trailer?

Featured Replies

I've just started to use chatterbaits (the original) and was just wondering what people use as a trailer for them? Or do people just mainly fish them without a trailer? About to pick up some GYCB flapping hogs to try but just wanted to see what other people are using.

I only use two types. One is the Zoom split tail trailer (white most of the time). Next is the Bass Buster double tail grub (white) when fishing in timber to lessen the hangups. With both I leave the skirt on. Some use a Zoom Fluke or similar soft plastic.

i like the trailer that comes with the booyah swim jig. it's basically the same thing as the zoom split tail, just a little bit longer. go with the zoom

I use a trailer hook.  Drastically increased hookups.

I remove the skirt, and add a super fluke jr.

It has a fantastic random, searching action at slow to med. retrieves.

ALLWAYS SHARPEN THE HOOK RIGHT OUT OF THE PKG. !!

GOOD LUCK !

Mostly because any trailer hook you put on an original Chatterbait is better than the stock hook.

Three really good trailers, particularly if you are trying to imitate bluegill are the Yamamoto 5" Swim Senko, R.I. 5" Skinny Dipper, and Lake Fork Tackle 4.5" Live Magic Shad, in no particular order. Deadly when worked over and along submerged vegetation.

Zoom- split tail trailers, or flukes

Perfect plastics (stock trailers)- all of them

A good piece of advice if you are using the zooms, pinch of about a half inch off though.

guitarkid, I thread the whole Zoom trailer body on the hook so the head is against the skirt. That keeps it from sliding down as it gets used some. Rigged that way, the start of the hook bend is at the end of the body ribs just before the split. Taking off 1/2" would make it too short and decrease the grip it has on the hook shank.

Sorry, I forgot to mention, I take it off the end of the tails
