Trim System

Featured Replies

hey. i am fixing an old bass boat. supposedly it had a trim system, the console has a lever that says TRIM and when i push it, i can hear a click sound... but, the cylinders under the boat seem as if they are regular shock absorbers... i dont see any hoses going to/from the cylinders... can they be just shock absorbers?? Or where are the hoses located?? i wish i could take a look at the system on another bassboat, but since i dont, i need to get all my info online...

thanx!!

Are you talking about trim on the motor, or trim tabs which would be mounted on the transom to the left and the right of the motor(normally found on larger boats)?

im talking about the trim of the motor, adjusting the angle to increase speed and decrease RPMs... at least thats what i have been told it does, i have never owned a bassboat before, in fact i had never been in a bass boat before, so i have to rely on the internet for help.... thanx!

It sounds as if you have a relay hooked to the switch if its making a clicking sound, so maybe there was trim. Check to see if the cylinders have plugs in them where hydraulic hose or a pump may have been at one time.

thats what i thought, the relay is making a clicking sound, but i dont see a pump anywhere... and the cylinders dont seem to have a plug, that makes me believe they are some sort of shock absorbers or something...

Trim tabs?

Yes, trim tabs.(there's a pic on the link you posted) The hydraulic tabs to the left and right of the motor in the pic. They can help raise and lower the hull as well as compensate for any kind of tilt from unevenly distributed weight. As I originaly posted they are normally used on larger boats, but you never know. Knowing limited details of what he is working on, I had to ask. ...and yes , please post a pic.
