Spiderwire Fluorobraid Review

Ok, so you guys know I deep crank with braid, have for a few years and will keep on doing so, as most of my cranking is in and around grass. It has been with 20lb Power Pro, while Power Pro might not be the most advanced braid but, I like it, I have been using it for a long time, have a ton of confidence in it, it gets ny baits deeper than any 10 or 12 lb fluoro that I have used, handles pretty well, and it's hard to beat for the price. When I first heard of this new Fluorobraid my first thought was " deep cranking line", at least for my use. I pretty much forgot about it through much of spring and early summer untill deep cranking became a bigger part of the rotation. Spooled some on my cranking reel after I had been cranking a few weeks, and started using it. It has been in use now for about 35-40 days, and last night it went in the trash.

What I liked about it:

Not much,

Smoother and quiter than Power Pro, and also seemed to be a bit smaller in diameter for the same lb. test (20)

What I disliked about it:

Just about everything else. For one, the smaller diameter might have gotten my cranks a touch deeper, a little faster, but not any deeper than I could get them with Power Pro. And it was very prone to digging in on the spool, I problem I have not had with Power Pro. It was also about the poorest handling braid I have ever used, which was a bit shocking seeing as how smooth and limp it was.

It is advertised as the braid that sinks......... if it does, it's a painfully slow sink, and not enough to get the baits deeper or to justify the extra cost over Power Pro IMHO.

It is also advertised as more abbrasion resistant than regular braid. Thats flat out false, in fact, IMHO, it's worse, much worse. At least with Power Pro I could crank some zebra mussle infest rocks for a dozen cast's before I had to retie, when this stuff came in contact with ANY THING it cut it. Thats probably the number one reason it's in the trash.

I'll go back to Power Pro for now.
