Rod Suggestion

Featured Replies

Looking for an affordable upgrade.

Shock and field and stream Tec spec are about 50 to 55 dollars

Lighting is 30 on sale

I need a 7 ft mh casting rod. Any advice from experience? The lightning rod price makes me want to buy a second for a spinning set up but I'd like to get my casting set up straightened out

Given your choices, I would take the Field and Stream. For the price and the components, it is a very tough deal to match/beat at its price point, and they actually feel decent in hand.

This is no knock against berkely. I have an older Lightning rod myself as a back up rod and it is solid, but even at twice the price of the F&S, I still think the latter is the better choice.

However if budget is a concern and you need two rods for the same money, you would have spent on the F&S, then by all means proceed with the LRs. Bottom line it depends on your needs.

Thanks for the insight

I have the Tec Spec 7' MH rig&jig spinning model and it is a great rod. Very sensitive for the price and been using it as my worm and fat ika rod as of late. It has plenty of backbone to handle and control fish and sure any of the casting models would be a great budget addition to your line up. I'm thinking of adding another spinning model to my lineup as well since I liked the rig & jig model so much.

I looked at the jerk bait/all purpose rod, felt pretty nice

I can't comment on the field and stream rod but I have a lightning rod and I had a shock. I would take the original over the shock any day, even if they were the same price. The shock had too much of a wet noodle feeling for me.

The shock to me would be a good crankbait rod

My choice would be the Tech Spec rod. I have a 7'M casting rod and for the price, it's a great rod. The Lightening rods are really good for the price but the Tech Spec is better for a bit more. I take my Tech Spec with me fairly regularly with my Zillions, Cumara, and Helium II rods and it holds it's own. It's no miracle rod, still a $50 rod but it fishes very well.

Thanks

I just purchased the tec spec MH xfast casting rod for jigging and I think it's a pretty decent rod for the money. It's a tad heavy but it feels good in my hands.
