Curmudgeon Rule Called

Recommended Posts

The Curmudgeon Rule was called for the second time this college football season as Brad Wing was on his way to score another LSU touchdown against the Florida Gators.

All the kid did was open his arms a little and smile at two Florida players.

He was just being nice.

And those nasty refs called him on it and took the touchdown away.

He, what do you expect from a kid from Australia who is a punter and runs around after hitting a great punt yelling "I kick a touchdown, I kick a touchdown?"

Geaux Tigers!!!!! :D:D:D

Was that this year , I don't think so. B)

You're correct. Boise didn't play Idaho this season, so the rule wasn't in effect yet. Even if it had happened this year, it was clearly after the play, and it looks as if he's pointing to the fans, not taunting the other team. Excessive celebration, yes, but as a dead ball foul, it wouldn't erase a touchdown.

That was a pretty ticky tack call against that poor kid. C'mon... a kicker gets a TD and you're going to call it back because he put his arms out for a premature hug???

Y’all are correct that was from Boise & Idaho last but wrong in that last year the penalty was 15 yards after the kick not a touchdown recalled.

"No player, substitute, coach or other person subject to the rules shall use abusive, threatening or obscene language or gestures, or engage in such acts that provoke ill will or are demeaning to an opponent, to game officials or to the image of the game, including but not limited to:

(a) Pointing the finger(s), hand(s), arm(s) or ball at an opponent, or imitating the slashing of the throat.

(B) Taunting, baiting or ridiculing an opponent verbally.

© Inciting an opponent or spectators in any other way, such as simulating the firing of a weapon or placing a hand by the ear to request recognition.

(d) Any delayed, excessive, prolonged or choreographed act by which a player (or players) attempts to focus attention upon himself (or themselves).

(e) An unopposed ball carrier obviously altering stride as he approaches the opponent’s goal line or diving into the end zone.

(f) Removal of a player’s helmet before he is in the team area (Exceptions: Team, media or injury timeouts; equipment adjustment; through play; between periods; and during a measurement for a first down).

(g) Punching one’s own chest or crossing one’s arms in front of the chest while standing over a prone player.

(h) Going into the stands to interact with spectators, or bowing at the waist after a good play."

The only showboating rule I'd like to see enforced is where some idiotic defensive player sacks the QB, breaks into his well scripted gyrations, all while his team is down by a score of something like 45-7!

The penalty should be 15 yards, automatic first down and sterilization!

I think more appropriate punishment would be to make the player sit for a quarter...not punish the whole team by taking the points off the board. Just a ridiculous rule.
