Donkey (Double Fluke) Rig Problem

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I've been trying to get this rig working correctly cause it is a great rig on my home waters. Every time i try it though the 2 lines get tangled together. I put one swivel free floating on the main line with about a 2 foot leader and then the fluke and another swivel tied to the main line with about a 3 foot leader . It seems for some reason the one that is supposed to float up and down the main line gets trapped on the one tied and then the 2 lines start getting tangled up. Anyone know what i may be doing wrong here???

Thanks!!

I read somewhere (i think it was bassmater website) that you had to use a heavy (50# or better mono or flouro) line in order for the line to not tangle. Any truth to this and if so that may be my problem as i am currently using #12 co-poly.

Thanks!!

I don't think line would be a problem but maybe you need a fluro to sink and a mono to float but I am not sure.

I am going to try braid main line and fluro for my leaders.

A simple rig, which almost never tangles, utilizes two hooks and one swivel.

Tie a swivel to one hook so the "leader is between 12 and 14 inches. You can go down to 10", but no more than 14". Run your main line through the swivel and tie on your second hook.

I use this on either #10 or #12 mono, and the only time it ever tangles is when the flukes get torn up and won't stay skin-hooked. Then the line will get caught by a hook occasionally.

I use 4/0 EWG hooks and a small ball bearing swivel.
