Culling Systems

Featured Replies

Do ay of you all use the culling systems with the clips that you just clip on the upper lip of the fish? How well do these work compared to the ones that you actually poke through? Do they stay on pretty well?

I use them and so far they have worked out pretty well. Occassionally one will work it's way off of a fish if you don't get it on good but can't complain. I like them because I just just clip them on the livewell and take one off as I need it.

They can come off. Last tourney I fished with a buddy who uses them, and one of the fish was "naked" when we were done. But it's no big deal if you have separate livewells or are fishing a buddy tournament where you are sharing the creel anyway.

I used to fish a draw tournament and my boat has a livewell with a divider. Well, sometimes a fish wouldn't follow directions and would make it over the tiny space at the top of the divider (yes I have been known to house a dink or two in there). So I always used the lip piercing clips, just to be safe.

But I'd much rather use the kind that just clip on. Poor fish already had a hook in his mouth, so it's nice not too have to stick something else in him.

I got tired of them coming off in the livewell. I had the X-tools type and ended up putting the safety pin style of ends off of a cheap metal stringer on them. I put colored beads on each one to go with the Cul-me-rite scale and they work great and I don't have to worry about them coming off.

get the ardent culling system and never look back. ;)
