New Best Friend!

Recommended Posts

Went down to Appalachian State for a campus tour this weekend. My aunt, who lives in Greensville, SC, met us there. She brought one of her many dogs she has on her land for us to bring home. His name is Lucky, and he is a Pointer/Hound mix. She picked him up when he was 6 months old shivering in a ditch with bleeding paw pads. This dog is a natural-born coon dog. He trees everything with legs that can climb. Last time we went to my aunts farm they had a deer in the middle of their property. She let him out and he almost caught it!

Up until Lucky we've always had girl dogs, mainly because of my mom. Not the "puntables" that walk around the mall in sweaters, (hound and a Golden), but they've never really been "outdoorsy". Let me tell you, Lucky is my boy. He follows me around the house and cries when I leave. I love this pup so much already! He's had no formal training whatsoever but doesn't pull at all on the leash and sits and lays down when told. We went on a 2 mile trail run today and it was like running with my old pal. I'm working on taking him fishing soon. Hopefully we will have many years ahead of us enjoying the outdoors!

Wonderful story.

Nothing like a dog to give you unconditional love.

Check out the Three Dog Bakery at Stony Point Fashion Park for some great treats that you can bring to him on your next visit.

Appy State. Boone. Mountains. Snow & ice. Great football. Cute girls.

Hope you can get in and even better, get out with that diploma. ;)

Nice looking pup!

Not real sure about the running deer thing, as we always tried to break our hounds from that habit. Anyhow, he should make for good company whether out in the woods or at home. Congrats on finding your new friend.

X2, especially if you're going to take him trail running on a regular basis.

Their yard was fenced in, and the deer just flew over it. I doubt he would run from me, but I'm not stupid enough to test that theory, LOL.

It can happen though about the deer my old dog Sparta was a husky mix and my brother took him out with him looking for his dog Missy who was lost and Sparta took off chasing a deer dragging my brother till he lost control. He told me Sparta chase the deer across the Rap. river till his leash got stuck on the other side, which thankfully cause we was able to get Sparta later. Him and mom went to find him. Must been a reason why I didn't go maybe work can't remember why it's been ages.

Missy was never found.
