Okay, so yesterday I took my twin brother fishing at the local country club pond and I was letting him use my hooks and senkos. I've always used a Palomar to tie everything thing on and i used this knot to tie on the octopus circle hooks....Well, my brother ended up getting a HUGE bite and it took the hook with the senko...i should mention that i tied a double Palomar this time, when the fish took it.....Its never failed me, but this time it did....Any suggestions for remedying this problem? I've always thought the palomar was a great knot....Also we are using 8# test to do our fishing....thanks in advance

 Never used a double myself. If you're sure it was the knot and not( ;D)the line breaking, I always check mine pretty close, to see if everything is laying right ...

Ill second the motion of only using a reg palmer knot. I never tie anything else and heck even with 50# braid when i get caught in a tree I rip branches off. Might bend my hook but never had a tie come loose or snap on me. Must have been something weird you did when you tied it on.

well, a couple thoughts, how much does your brother fish?  is it possible he didn't get a bite, and hit a log and yanked the hook off?  or is it possible something bit through the line?  In my lake besides bass, we also have big musky and walleye that will easily cut the line.  maybe he dragged the line along the bottom, weakening it, and a bass just broke the weakened line?

i have ripped branches out of trees on numerous occasions, and have NEVER had a palomar not fail on my yet.  However, i have noticed people identifying different knots as palomar knots.  I do a triple line twist then insert the line back through the loop infront of the eyelet, and over the hook.  Again, I have never had one fail, and i have busted limbs out of trees and pulled small dead trees from the bottom of small lakes without ever having a failure.

Do you ever retie your lines after an outing?  What type line were you using?

My best guess is that there might have been some wear and tear on the line at the knot.  Whenever I have breakoffs, I almost always examine the end of the line to see if I either broke the line before the knot or if the line broke at the knot. It is hard to say for your case since you don't have a pic of your line.
