Suggestions for first real deal tackle box?

Featured Replies

hey guys

i was wondering if you guys could list a few suggestions for a good first time legit tacklebox that can "hold a little bit of everything". i'm willing to spend a little cheddar. (like more than 20 bucks ;)

thanks

I would recommend to anyone, at anytime to suck it up and spend the money on a Falcon tackle system.  Then again, I'm an organization freak so they are perfect for me.  Everything in it's place....everything in it's place.....no that doesn't go there!

I have two Cabelas bags that I can squeeze (7) 3700's in the main compartment, a worm binder in each side pocket, and a 3600 in the front.  Like the bag Burley recommended, the Cabelas bag is rated to hold (5) 3700's in the main compartment, but I can squeeze in 7.  Regardless of the bag you choose, going with a 3700 system is the way to go.  As you acquire more tackle, you can easily add more 3700 boxes (and inexpensively ;)), and just select the boxes condusive to the impoundment/conditions you will be fishing.  I found mine at Cabelas for $29.99.  I will add that I do use the Falcon hook and weight boxes, but I use standard Plano 3700's for everything else.

Here is the one of my Cabelas bags...Bass Pro and Plano make a very similar one.

I use the RubberMade plastic file storage boxes. You can attach a nylon shoulder strap to them and they will look like a box specifically designed to hold fishing tackle. The ones i have now can hold six of the 3700 utility boxes and twelve of the 3705 utility boxes. If you get one that is deeper you should be able to lay either one more 3700 or two more 3705 on top of the other boxes and have plenty of room left to close the lid. You can get them at WalMart. Then you can go over to the sporting goods section and check to see what size of utility boxes work best.

I use a flambeau soft sided box got it on clearance at wallyworld holds 6 3700 boxes plus spinnerbait buzzbait box and room for extras. I wll make one suggestion get one larger than you think you need because the baitmonkey is strong and if you fill you box up with what you already have then you will just have to buy another box to put all the new stuff you will have to have.

I have 2 boxes 1 is a Shaw Grigsby tackle bag from Dicks that holds 6 370 boxes full and the other is the large flip sider box from Plano almost full. ;D

my personal recommendation is the XPS 370 bag from Bass Pro.

Its got PLENTY OF ROOM for anything you'll need.  It Can essentially hold around 7 370(3700 Plano style) boxes if you need it to or two spinnerbait boxes and 4 370's, 4 360(3600 Plano), its got a spot on the back for things, 3 zipper compartments..one on the very front that expands, one inside the front thats clear plastic, and one underneath the top lid thats clear plastic.  Theres also a space on top of the top thats a zippered compartment but not very tall..I slide extra tackle dividers and things like that in there.

The bag might seem a little daunting at first but its very nice to know that all of my stuff is stored neatly and safely and all that.  Its 75 dollars so it may be a bit pricey for you, but I personally think it'd be worth it(I did get mine on sale for 55 dollars, though).

Your tackle "box" should definately be a tackle "bag"

The Plano bag and the Cabelas bags are both nice (I have both of them).

Several years ago my wife bought me the huge Denny Brauer tackle bag

from Cabelas. That thing is HUGE but it is good for tournaments that are

out of town. You can load up a lot of backup tackle and keep it in the hotel

for restocking purposes.
