i have recently started tournament fishing on gun lake in michigan and was wondering what the best baits are for that lake in the spring and summer seasons, and if you have any tips or tricks on how to use them. Any info would be much appreciated

Isn't it really clear water? Fish spawn location will influence fish location throughout a bunch of the year, but if it is deep clear like I'm thinking there could be a bunch of fish spawning in 15' of water.

East Basin or the West Basin?

I've used a pretty wide variety of baits over the years. Topwaters, crankbaits, worms, tubes, and grubs, they all work at certain times.

Like a lot of other lakes, its more important to find the fish than to find something they'll bite. The East Basin has the most diversity from rocky islands, to deeper weedbeds, to productive dock fishing patterns. Once you have figured out what the fish are staging on, it is fairly easy to find a number of areas with similar cover. The West Basin is much shallower but still holds fish on slightly deeper weedbeds, the rice beds, docks and channels. At times, the sandsucker hole will attract fish as well. I've always found fishing the west side means covering a lot of water until you find a productive area as so much of it looks exactly the same on the map.

BTW, whatever baits you want to fish, I'd suggest something in green or brown. Motor Oil was always a good flavor.

jigfishermen, i have a partner for the gun tournament but depending on the day and time i could potentially fish with you down on klingler a time or two, Lund explorer, from the few times i have fished it i have had the most luck flipping docks and tossing some grubs in the holes infront of the beaches but i dont know if there is anything better that i should do out there for next season

Id recommend C-flash crank baits or poor-boys darters always a great way to find fish out the.

i have heard that the c-flash cranks work well out there, what would work better the 44 mag or the 44 cal?

Can't tell you much about Gun Lake. But if I were you I would find what rock and gravel you could and drag tubes, throw some topwater,and crank flats. Target little irregularities. Up here in Michigan we aren't blessed with ledges like Guntersville has. A big drop is a couple feet. Last year I caught a 9.03lb largemouth at Ryerson in Fremont, pulled it off a drop and the toad just swallowed it up. If my info doesn't help, believe in your own abilities! Hope I helped man!
