Jerkbaits

Featured Replies

Does anyone throw jerkbaits in the summer?  Or do you mainly use them in winter/ spring?  I thought a fast erratic retrieve may turn them on tomorrow morning.

Soft or hard baits? I use flukes through thick grass and pads all summer! I use the hard jerk baits along weed lines, docks and on points all summer as well!!!

I was talking about hard baits like pointers and rogues.  I will mainly be fishing points and humps.  How do you fish them on points?  Do you stay deep and cast shallow?  My favorite point I fish is long and shallow with a ledge on each side.  One side drops into a creek channel and the other drops into the river channel.  I was thinking about putting the boat in the channel and casting on top of the point bringing it over the ledge?

The ones i fish go from shallow to deep with slow tapers on bot ends. In the summer mornings i usually put the boat parallel to the point and cast shallow. When that bite disappears i will turn around, move out and cast deeper. Long pauses followed by violent jerks seem to be the key when it gets HOT here in FL!

they do sometimes still work in the summer although I like them best when the water is pretty cool.

REmember the Classic on the 3 rivers in Pittsburgh.  It was in August I think and KVD was throwing jerkbaits

I throw em all year long.  Had plenty of summer days where that was the only bite I could find.  Twitch, pause, twitch....BAM!!  Had a great day many years ago c-rigging Bomber Long A's on a deep flat with isolated structure.
