Kotg 2012

Who plans on fishing it this year?

First qualifier this Sunday. The fishing out there has been downright miserable. My partner Jack fished a big fish tourney there last week and apparently one fish was weighed in. Every report I've seen in the past month has been miserable. Most people blanking... Aymon won an open out there recently with 10lbs. It's just ugly right now.

A couple guys I talked to aren't even going to bother with this first one. We're going to give it a shot. Going to try like heck to weigh five fish...

Im still undecided but its looking like i am. Im going to try and get out fri and sat and see how things are out there.

I am not interested this year. Good luck to the participants.

I'm just overcommitted on other fishing things but may do the Gambler version at Clewiston. It's been a little scary how bad it has become out there. As mentioned, even the flatsmeisters are struggling. Saw that about Aymon and Hank K and Mike L weighed 10# also in a tournament a few weeks ago. I had heard reports about a tremendous number of large fish getting stranded in the flats when the water went so low and I hope it hasn't changed things dramatically.

I would not doubt that report. I haven't seen the fishing this bad for such a long period. The canal guys and the flats guys are all drawing blanks. I haven't fished out there in awhile but on some of the forums, guys are talking like the fish have just gone

i will be fishing it. the fishing is tough, but somebody has to win.

That's my thinking also, Bruce. I like my chances better with a tough bite, versus a 25-30lb slugfest with all of the sticks out there.

A little over ten pounds won.

It was as brutal out there as I had feared. Only two boats weighed more than ten pounds. Only 11 boats weighed anything. We were fortunate to weigh two fish. Only two bites we had all day.

With the water being so high and so cold, its just really tough right now.

Wow, that is bad. Hats off to you on getting a couple bites :notworthy: . I blanked out there Fri around the alley and Sat out off the trail. Over 10 hrs and not even a bite :cry4: . I decided to sit out. Im a lil bummed, i really wanted to fish the whole trail again this year.

Something's amiss. I can understand zero-ing in the canals as there are times you might as well be fishing in your bathtub but when the flatmeisters are struggling, there is something not right about the fish population. What a difference a year makes. Last year, even hackers like us were getting 20#

I agree, it was weird. We didn't even see fish. normally even if they aint biting, you can see them running around the flats but there was no activity at all. Not a nite until 230 when we caught three in like a 10 minute span...

The moon phases were in favor of a good bite last sunday. The cold weather and high water must have had the bigger fish in deep cover with lock jaw. It will be interesting to see when the bass turn on over there at HP. I think the kotg in january last year won with 28#. When the bass finally start biting, it should be real good there. Until then, the big O!

Eesh, 10 pounds? That a record low for a tourney win out there? Definitely sounds like one really tough day out there.
