Which Abu Garcia Rod For Cranking?

Featured Replies

I am sending off my Vendetta 6'9" MH/F for warranty work and want to get a crankbait rod back. It has to be abu so no other makers please.

Right now I am looking at:

Vendetta 7' mh/f

Vendetta 7'3" mh/m

Veritas 7' mh/f

Veritas winch 7' m/m

Veritad winch 7' 6" mh/m

Any other suggestions would be great.

For shallow cranking I like medium

Power moderate action. For the deeper stuff I like the MH power moderate action rods

This will be pretty much my primary cranking rod both shallow and deep so I'm thinking MH is probably the way to go.

i have the veritas 7' m/mf and it fishes more like a mh. i originally got it to fish shallow to medium cranks, but it ended up too fast and too stiff for what i was wanting to use it for. i switched it over to a spinnerbait rod and it works great for that though!

I'd get a medium action one. Wanna know why? Jason Penn ^ summed it up pretty well. The Vendetta/Veritas rods are stiffer than what is normally not so stiff. Plus I own a MH one, not in a million years I'd use that for cranking. Maybe ripping lipless crankbaits from grass, but nothing like you described. You're going to want it to be more "flexible" so you wont take the bait away from fish too quick, and plus it helps when the fish trying to throw the hook..

I have the 7' MH/F Vendetta that I use for just about all moving baits when I'm out walking the banks, especially for shallow cranks and squarebills. Does great down to 1/4 oz cranks and spinnerbaits as well. Nice tip and I really like the handle length and shape.

Like the others have stated the Abu line of rods run very stiff. I was going to get a verdict because I like to fish with short handles but the Medium power was wayyyy to stiff for cranking. The only rod that is soft enough was the Vengeance which was the cheapest model in the line up. Not as sensitive as the others but has the right action.

I forgot to mention that I will be using this rod for mostly deep drivers and some shallow cranks, so is the mh still do stiff of a rod?

I love my Abu rods but, in my opinion, they tend to run a little stiffer than advertised.

Of the ones you listed, I would go with the Veritas 7ft m/m.
