I don't have a dedicated lipless crank bait rod at the moment and came across one of the new Crucial cranking rods a pretty good price. Its getting old retying every time I feel like throwing one, so I'm thinking about pulling the trigger.

I tried to find some reviews online on these newer model rods but didn't have any luck. I usually throw a 1/2 or 3/4 trap in open water in a small lake behind the house. The only type of cover out there are the Christmas trees that I have sunk, other then those its just a flat mud bottom.

The rod is a 7' 2" M MF(CRC-C72MA). Have any of you guys had the chance to use any of these new Crucial cranking rods? If so, what do you think about them so far? Do they compare well with the others in there regular price range(150-160)?

I haven't used the rod but I think that you'd be much happier with a medium heavy for traps, especially if fished around grass. you've got a little more backbone for ripping it out of the grass which is where I have most of my bites on lipless cranks. I use a 7' mh falcon bucoo micro and it's absolutely perfect for traps and it can be had for $99

get an abu garcia veritas or vendetta

I think I will just spend a few extra bucks and get a Dobyns Champion 705CB for this. Ive been throwing them on 703c lately, so that 705CB Mod/Fast taper should just be the icing on the cake. I can tell you from experience that the 705CB is an excellent lipless crank rod.
