Livewell Questions

Featured Replies

I fish out of an 84 model lowe boat. It has the livewell located under the seats with the pump on one side to fill the live well. It has no way to pump water back out of the livewell. Just has the overflow tube. The problem I am having is with 2 people and all the gear in the boat if we happen to be fishing from the same side and lean over. the water in the livewell will start pouring out from under the seat. Any suggestions on how to install a pump out system in this type of livewell? or a way to stop this from happening?

Don't fill the livewell up all the way. My Mirrocraft has a similar setup but is located at the stern of the boat. If it overflows, it goes to the lowest part of the hull and is pumped out thru the bilge pump. Even if you bought a submersible pump it probably wouldn't keep up with the quick movements which are causing the current problem. Mine only does it, if I'm panfishing and my dad is in the back of the boat. He is the baitkeeper. If I need minnows and Igo to the back of the boat there's 500lbs of fishermen causing the list.

Cut an inch off the overflow tube?

Cut a set of baffles ..walls.... with about a 1" hole 1 1/2" up from the bottom in each barrier. You want the 3 sides SEALED so all the water must go thru the holes. I will guess a wall every 10" to 16" will stop the sloshing enough. Size of the bait really is the seperation factor.

Putting in some fresh green weeds REALLY calms the fish down & slows down the Oxygen the use up in a panic when the lid is lifted each time. 2 buddies did that & like it. We have a ton of small Aluminum retirees.

Old mind.

Make sure the pump & the out flow pipe are at opposite ends. Enjoy.

Me. I just use a covered white 5 gallon pail with seaweeds in it. I am usually alone. The pail DOES MAKE a excellent porta potty in a emergency.

interesting idea with the baffles cyclops. May be something I have to consider.

closetfisherman - I had thought about cutting some off the overflow tube but I was afraid that it might put it below the water line and cause it to fill with water from that end?? Something I wasnt sure about. Now that I think about it more that could be the problem I am having now is with all the tackle and stuff we have may have the boat deep enough in the water to over run the overflow tube. I will have to check this when I pull the boat out this year!
