My house has an 8 acre pond behind it. We have lots of Geese come and go and of course they poop a LOT! Are geese good or bad for bass? I guess the only impact is all the poop they leave behind. Does it somehow help the bass or hurt them?

Well it could be bad and good, to much running off the bank can pollute your pond causing unwanted bacteria and unwanted viruses. Good, cause it's good ferterlizer for the fround surrounding the pond. If it gets out of hand Game and Wildlife officer could be contacted. Also baby geese are on the menu for big bass .

id say its good for them when i think about how many times i have been chased by geese when trying to fish a spot around there nest in the spring

The best way to get ride of geese is with 12" rocks/boulders along the shore line (Chicken wire fence works as well and is cheaper to install). I've heard of all kinds of inventions including sprinklers. Geese are too lazy to jump over the boulders/structure. They only enter/exit water where they can easily waddle in/out. I don't know how big the shore line is there. Some ponds only have a few 50' sections of water access but have an enormous geese problem. Its easy to eliminate them there.

agreed. I fish a pond on a cattle farm(which equals alot of ****) with regular geese and the fish seem to keep getting bigger and multiplying if anything.

Geese travel long distances and with that they carry parasites from unfamilure waters, just like you would if you did not clean your boat from one lake to the next, weather or not it is enough to effect your water in a negitive way is the only unknown.

I would definitely keep a close eye on the water for any changes...ie...surrounding grass dieing, lilly pads disappearing etc...

Don't know about the bass but, if you'll forgive the pun, geese really honk me off. There are too many of the ^&%$# things around. They're like people-fine in moderation but too many and you've got a problem.

They used to migrate at least, now their here year round...Not very canadian eh.

I regularly fish a pond iv dubbed the "walmart" pond mainly because it's across the street from Wally world but u also don't need to go shopi g with the amount of junk found there iv found cases of beer in the weeds left behind lures line condoms u name it but this pond also in the fall and spring is over ran with geese to the point where u can't see any water they pack in there so tight. I mean if u didn't know there was a pond you'd swear it was just geese laying in a field. The ponds got some size to it also I'm not good judging acres but it's at least 10. The bass are huge there I'll catch a lot of dinks but I also never go there with out hammering a few in the 3-5 range with a few 6 and 7 lbers a year and I swear iv broke off bigger. So I'd say theg don't hurt it or help only hurt I see is they don't like me much besides the resident couple they have come to accept me an the pond gets a layer of feathers that gets caught up in my line like that cotton wood crap.
