Fouling line #2

Featured Replies

I was reading Gomer Pyle's post and didn't want to hi-jack, so... I recently started using lipless cranks (Strike King) and have this problem when yo-yoing while retrieving them. I am using the rod tip to pick them up and fall, not cranking on fall. Don't know if this is the problem or what..

BTW don't think type or size of line would make a difference but 12# orig. Stren

Sound like the hooks are fouling with the line on the drop.  You may want to try reeling as you led the rod go down on the drop.   I fish Rattle Traps (similar) a lot and do not have that problem.

Like he said you have to make sure you reel quickly as you lower the rod.

IMO the twitch can put slack in the line and as reeling in the hooks catch the slacked line, I pay little attention to it, just untangle and make my next cast.

Closing your bail a split second before it hits the water( if using spinning) helps too.  I use a 18# homemade lures with multiple 3/0 trebles that are prone to foul hooking, closing the bail greatly reduces this.

Thanks for the HELP :(! Guess I'll have to figure out how to get that yo-yo effect while still reeling :-/...

I don't read any thing into it.  Fishing the surf it happens constantly, sometimes, just from the waves with any kind of lure.
