Spinning Reel For 6'6" Veritas

Featured Replies

I just bought a 6'6" medium Veritas at BPS and am looking to use it mainly for soft plastics and maybe some jigs. I have a birth defect of my right arm and am nursing a snowboarding injury and want/need to make a light weight combo to fish all day with. I looked at several different reels that seemed to pair pretty well with it and no one seemed to stand out as the clear leader. I have narrowed down my choices to:

Abu Garcia Orra S

Abu Garcia Orra SX

Pflueger Supreme

Pflueger Supreme XT

I did like the Supreme XT a hair more then the other 3 and then its a tie among the others. I am a grad school student and just find it hard to spend the extra $50 for the XT. Is it really worth the added cost? Which one of the 4 do you think will pair the best with my Veritas and 8 lb Seaguar InvizX?

Thanks.

Welcome to the boards! I have an Orra S on my Veritas and they work great together, not to mention they look great together. When possible I try to "match" rod/reel brands, but I also have the Supreme MGX and it's a great reel that would also work well.

Buy within your budget, you have the rest of your life after you get established to buy higher end equipment. Any reel from 60-$100 is going to be fine, buy one that's eye friendly, and feels good on your rod, don't over think it.

I only have experience with the pflueger supreme. It is a fine reel, and although this may sound weird, I did not like it due to nothing else but the size of the reel. I prefer the slightly larger 2500-3000 size spinning reels. Have nothing but good things to say about the reel, performed flawlessly when I owned it.

My advice, go the closest bass pro, cabelas, dicks, academy or where ever you buy your fishing supplies, and put the reel on the rod you are going to use it on. Will give you an idea how it is going to feel. good luck with your choice

All the reels are within my price range and I put each one on a Veritas and couldn't make up my mind.

I will put each one back on the rod at random and see if one stands out to me. I am going to wait until the reel trade in during the Classic so I will do some more research and try and make up my mind.

I went back to BPS and looked at the reels again and the Supreme XT stood out to me as a clear winner. The Supreme was very nice but I do not like the handle on it, the Orra SX was heavier then I want and the Orra S was very close but I like the light weight of the XT better.

Since I need to buy 2 reels I will be getting the Supreme XT for my Veritas and the Orra S for my 6'6" medium Carbon Lite rod that I tend to use for genderal purpose/top water lures.
