Dobyns Dropshot Rig Advice

Featured Replies

I am trying to Decide on what rod to get.

DX742 SF

DX743 SF

would it even be thinkable to look at the casting rods with the same numbers?

I fish a lot of cypress trees type lakes. I would think I would use this around docks too. So it would not be open water, but not heavy cover either.

80% of the time in water less than 10- 12 foot.

would think I would use 8 pound flouro, but I guess I could do 10 as well.

more than anything I want to make sure I could turn a fat 4 pounder if I needed to.

thanks

DX742 SF or DX702SF if mainly around docks

Definately the DX742SF. Better yet, it will also make a fantasic shaky head stick for you. Put a Stradic on it and you will be dialed. I'm also using mine for hula grubs on deep clear smallmouth lakes/rivers. You will be able to turn a four pounder.

I can't argue with Mike here. Spot on. Open water the 701DX is a hoot to fish but your limited to dropshot with that rod (701)...
