Texas Rig Jig ?

Featured Replies

I ran across these while perusing eBay for jig deals this morning and have been thinking about it all day. It seems like a great idea and I'm going to pick up a few. Thought it would pair nicely with a Yum Money Craw or Rage Craw. Any long and solid craw/creature bait really.

Wondering what others thought? Has this been tried before?

Don't really see how that's a better mouse trap...

BTW I've been wrong before though

We had a discussion about these not too long ago. Maybe Catt will chime in. He said they used to just stuff bullet weights into skirts before companies started making them molded together. Now there is a company called Paycheck Baits that is making a skirt tied to a bead to be put between your choice of weight and hook.

What makes these potentially better is that in some cases, a texas rig comes through grass and brush better than jigs.

I first started using them back in the mid-70s by simply inserting a bullet weight into a skirt. During the 80s a company out of Shreveport, Louisiana produced them under the name Big Red's Flying Jig. It is nothing more than a spinner bait head less the wire arm (pictured); the junebug colored one is an original Big Red's Flying Jig.

Not only is this a deadly Punch Lure it is extremely deadly during winter when coupled with a 6 Gene Larew Hawg Craw. They are also available in lighter weights and can add rattles with the use of a rattle band as pictured to the left.

They are sold by under the name Cyclone Slip-N-Jig by Bayou Outdoors

Thanks for the info all. (I had done a search, but nothing came up.) I'm pretty interested in this idea. Those Cyclone Slip-N-Jig's have some great colors too. Thanks Catt. i may give both a try.

I tried to warn you...

HA! You did indeed and I appreciate that! I found another eBay listing from the same guy where it was two weights for just a couple bucks & free shipping. I can live with that if they're a bust.

Barlow's Tackle Express use to sell just the lead head unpainted but I don't see it on their web site but I'll order their catalog.
